The challenge

coLOR is inFORmation

There are 160,000 people with visual impairment in Portugal. Worldwide, 300 million people live with colour blindness. Choosing clothes, matching colours, identifying products — these are simple everyday tasks that depend on the help of others.

AIBA Color gives that autonomy back. A compact device that reads any surface and immediately says the colour name aloud — no screen, no app, no assistance needed.

“I never really knew the colour of my clothes. Now I point the AIBA and it tells me.”

How it works

3 STEPS, full autoNOMy

Point

Hold AIBA Color close to any surface — fabric, wall, object, food. The spectral sensor captures the exact light reflected in 8 channels simultaneously.

Read

In less than 2 seconds the processor analyses the spectral data and identifies the closest colour in the 213-colour RAL catalogue, accounting for ambient light conditions.

Listen

The built-in speaker says the colour name aloud clearly and naturally. In Portuguese and English. No screen to read, no app to open — just the information you need, instantly.

Modes

5 mODes of use

Colour

Identifies and names the colour of any surface instantly. The main mode — point, press, listen.

Musical

Each colour is mapped to a musical note or chord. An intuitive and playful way to explore colour — useful in educational and creative contexts.

Light

Reports the ambient light level — low, medium, high, very bright. Ideal for checking whether a room is well lit or adjusting the environment.

Light Guide

Guides the user towards a light source with continuous audio feedback — useful for orientation in unknown spaces or searching for a window or exit.

Compare

Compares two surfaces and reports whether the colours match or differ — perfect for choosing clothes, coordinating outfits, or matching fabric samples.

Technology

the most adVANCed color sENSor

Spectral sensor AS7341

The AS7341 sensor captures 8 distinct spectral channels from 415 nm to 900 nm — covering visible light and near-infrared. Far more precise than RGB sensors, it distinguishes subtle colour differences invisible to conventional cameras.

Voice in Portuguese and English

The device speaks the colour name clearly in natural Portuguese or English. Audio is generated locally — no internet connection required. The built-in speaker provides audible output in any environment.

Portable with USB-C battery

The rechargeable lithium battery provides hours of continuous use. Charged via standard USB-C, compatible with any phone charger. Compact and light enough to fit in any pocket.

Tactile control

Navigation via a rotary encoder with physical click — no screen to look at, no app to learn. Mode changes, volume and activation are all done by touch. Designed to work without vision.
